Shabir arrested at Sumbal
SRINAGAR, July 6: Senior Hurriyat Conference (M) leader and president of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah and chairman Islamic political party Mohammad yousuf Naqash were arrested by police when they were on their way to Markundal and Kondabal villages to offer their condolences to the bereaved families of Irfan Nabi and Tariq Ahmad.

Irfan and Tariq were recently allegedly killed in army firing. The separatist leaders were stopped by cops at Sumbal Sonawri and arrested

While condemning the police action a spokesman of DFP said the government is responsible for the killings of Kashmiri youth. The government stops separatist leaders from expressing their sympathy with the affected families.

“By arresting separatist leaders including Shah, the struggle will not lose its momentum. The struggle will be carried forward with more enthusiasm. But the arrests will have a negative bearing on the situation across the Valley,” the spokesman cautioned.

Condemning the continuous house arrest of DFP chairman, the spokesman said, “Shah had gone to express sympathies with the bereaved families but the government did not allow it. The government action is interference in the duties of leaders. The so called democratic government has made the lives of people miserable as security forces and policeare enjoying unbridled powers under the draconian laws like AFSPA and PSA.”
