Militants abduct, kill cop in Kulgam

ANANTNAG, Jul 21: The police man who was abducted by the militants on Friday evening from his home in Motalhama village of southern Kulgam district was on Saturday found dead in Quimoo area of the district.
Saleem Ahmad Shah was abducted by a group of militants while he was returning from fishing in a nearby pond in his native village. After his abduction, though the police had launched a major hunt to locate the militants involved in his abduction, however, the cop was found dead from Ghat area near Quimoo township today.
The body of the killed cop, official sources said was spotted by the locals early morning who informed the police. Later a police team, they said, reached the spot and took custody of his body.
The cop who, official sources said, was earlier working as SPO had been recently promoted as a constable. He had come home on leave from a training centre in Rajouri few days back.
The body of the cop, a police official said was handed over to the family for burial after the medical and legal formalities.
Before being handed over to his family, a wreath laying ceremony was held for the killed cop at district police lines Kulgam. Top police officers of the area participated in the ceremony held in honour of the slain cop.
Pertinently, this is the fourth incident of abduction of security personal by militants in the southern region in over a month.
Last month on June 14, militants had abducted an army man from Poonch, identified as Aurangzeb from Kalampora village after he was travelling in a private vehicle. He was proceeding to home on leave.
His bullet riddled body was recovered from Busoo village the next morning. A video of the militants questioning abducted army man before being killed had also gone viral on social media. On the same evening militants had abducted a cop from Payeen Nowpora village of Pulwama district. The cop who was working as a Munshi in an SOG camp in the district, however, was later freed without any harm.
Earlier this month on July 7 a policeman identified as Javed Ahmad Dar was abducted by the militants from Vehil village of Shopian and his bullet riddled body was found next morning in another village falling in the jurisdiction of nearby Kulgam district.
