SRINAGAR, July 5: National Conference (NC) today alleged that PDP is playing cheap politics on AFSPA and wants to destabilize the democratic institutions of the state.
The party said it is PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who brought AFSPA to J&K “which killed hundreds of innocent people while everybody knows Omar’s stand on Armed Force Special power Act.”
PDP had yesterday said the shifting stands on the revocation of AFSPA have reduced the chief minister’s position “to a mockery of the system.”
Talking to a local news agency, KNS, minister of rural development and senior leader of ruling National conference Ali Mohammad Sagar said, “The statement given by PDP is completely irrelevant and very unfortunate. It is the cheap politics of Peoples Democratic Party who have been indulging in degrading the democratic institutions. They should be ashamed for having brought (AFSPA) to Kashmir which proved to be a huge reason for the bloodshed from last two decades,” said Sagar.
He also blamed that PDP never talked about the revocation of AFSPA during their tenure and ‘now when elections are close they have started issuing such statements’. “People of the state must remain vigilant with the conspiracies and communal politics. PDP as the party is losing ground that’s why it frequently defames our party”, said Sagar.
Joining the chorus NC provisional president, Nasir Aslam Wani said, “People’s democratic party has lost the ground in Kashmir for the upcoming elections that is why they are misleading the people by raising hue and cry. Even prime Minster appreciated Omar Abdullah for his good work in state whether it is Omar’s role in the development or good governance. Actually PDP wants to tarnish Chief minster’s image”.
He further said, “The progress for revoking of AFSPA is on, People should know that Chief Minister is serious about revoking the law”.
NC also criticised Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, for his latest “outburst against the chief minister.” The party blamed the veteran separatist leader of bringing miseries and sufferings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Geelani has always been against National Conference but the people of Kashmir do not accept him now as he is responsible for the miseries of people in Kashmir. He has chosen the path of bloodshed which majority of the people abhor,” said Dr Mustafa Kamal.
Sagar said, “Omar’s stand on AFSPA has not changed but if Geelani feels so he is wrong we have started the movement for AFSPA revocation and we will proceed with it. Unfortunately situation did not remain in favour but our stand is clear.
