JRL activists taken into custody after protest

SRINAGAR, Jul 9: Scores of activists of Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) who were arrested and taken into preventive custody after police foiled their protest against civilian killing in Kulgam by army Saturday last.

Chanting pro freedom slogans, dozens of the activists under the banner of Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) assembled at Abi Guzar area here and staged demonstrations to protest civilian killings by army in Kulgam.

Pertinent to mention, three civilians including a teenage girl were killed after army opened fire on the protesters during clashes at Hawora village in Redwani Kulgam in south Kashmir last week.

The activists demanded exemplary punishment to the accused army men who they alleged murdered the trio in cold blood.

A JKLF leader, Advocate Bashir Ahmad said killing innocents has become a day to day norm for armed forces on which the international community has maintained silence.

Meanwhile the protesters when tried to march city centre Lal Chowk, posse of police deployed in advance taken scores of them into preventive custody
