Lawyers stage protest against Gaza attack
KT NEWS SERVICE
SRINAGAR, Nov 19: Dozens of lawyers today staged a protest demonstration against the latest Israeli air strikes across the Gaza strip in which over 85 people has been killed so far.

Raising anti-Israel slogans, the protesting lawyer took out a procession from lower court. They were later stopped near clock tower in Lal Chowk. During the protest the lawyers set ablaze Israeli flags while shouting slogans like, ‘Down with Israel’ and ‘Soldiers of Gaza, We Are With You’.

Advocate Babar Jan Qadri, one of the protesting lawyers told Kashmir Times: “It was not a Bar Association programme but we have staged this protest demonstration on our own. We want the Muslim world should wake up to stop Israeli aggression in Palestine. The silence maintained by the Islamic world is disgusting as the mounting death toll in Gaza want the Muslims in the world to unite against Israel.”

Israel bombed dozens of suspected guerrilla sites in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip for the sixth straight day on Monday, and Palestinian rockets fire from the enclave dropped off as international efforts to broker a truce intensified.

Ten civilians and two field commanders from the Islamic Jihad faction were killed and at least 30 other Palestinians were hurt in the new air strikes, hospital officials said, bringing the death toll from six days of clashes in Gaza to 85.

“This protest was just in solidarity with all those innocent children, women and men who were killed in Palestine by the Israeli aggression and the Israeli armed forces. We just want to convey the message to the Palestinian people, who are suffering, we are with you, and our blood is for you,” said another protesting lawyer.

At least 22 of the fatalities have been children. The Gaza flare-up, and Israel's signaling that it could soon escalate from the aerial bombings to a ground sweep of the cramped and impoverished enclave, have stoked the worries of world powers watching an already combustible region.
