Ignored weaker sections
Corruption in J&K has looted the poor of their homes and hearths in cities
ActIT Jammu, Projects, Java,, C# Training Jammu
Repeated announcements and decisions of various committees of the successive state governments in J&K for providing houses and plots to individuals belonging to poorer and weaker sections of the society have been observed in breach during the past six decades after the country's independence. Sadly, the plight of the poor has been the same over these years despite the fact several colonies were carved out in the urban areas for providing houses to them. In fact, it is a sad state of affairs that only the wealthy and rich people have managed to garner benefits from the state government in getting ploys and houses meant for poor people. In certain cases, its has been pointed out time and again that plots and houses have been allotted to politically influential people including some prominent journalists, who have been close to power that be in the state during the past six decades. Similarly, the war widows colony developed close to Sainik Colony in Jammu met the same fate as the deserving people never got the plot or the house. It has been alleged time and against that a power nexus is operating in housing department and development authorities in two capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu where colonies for poor are carved out and then allotted to people enjoying favours of the powerful politicians within the government. Corruption which is rampant in J&K has been playing a major part in development and allotment of houses and plots meant for weaker sections of the society to rich and influential persons. In the process, the poorer people have continued to live in the same old hutments in the urban areas where they were supposed to be provided assistance by the government for uplifting their economic conditions. In majority of cases, these plots and houses have been sold out several times by unscrupulous people for making quick money in the process. Many inquiries initiated to look into these bunglings have not seen the light of the day. The officers who were at the helm of affairs at the time of misappropriations have been allowed to go scot free and no action has been taken against them till date. Unless the state government holds such corrupt elements accountable and stringent action is taken against them, people belonging to poor and weaker sections of the society will continue to suffer for no fault of theirs.
