Huge tax-arrears against BCCI

Dear Editor,
It refers to RTI response from Income tax Department subsequent to a CIC-verdict revealing that huge Income-Tax arrears of rupees 354 crores are pending towards BCCI information for which has been provided from assessment-years from 2007-08 to 2010-11. There may be tax-demands pending for earlier years also for which data is not made available. Surprisingly Income Tax Department has not cared to complete assessment-proceedings for assessment-years 2011-12 and 2012-13 where also tax-demands can be further added against BCCI.
Income Tax Department should (a) immediately complete assessment-proceedings against BCCI till date including for assessment-years 2011-12 and 2012-13 (b) decide first appeal pending for assessment-year 2009-10 (c) take stringent-most action including attachment of BCCI bank-account to recover heavy tax-dues pending against BCCI.
Income tax Department should initiate an enquiry to fix responsibility on its erring personnel who left assessment-proceedings pending against BCCI for too long, and those who failed to take suitable action against BCCI for recovery of such huge tax-dues.
