Cooperative HSS celebrates Children’s Day
JAMMU, Nov 16: Minister of State for Cooperatives & Finance, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma has called for promoting moral education in the educational institutions for the betterment of the society, adding that teachers and parents shall join hands to inculcate the centuries old value system among students for which India is known world over.

Speaking at a function organized by the Cooperative Public Higher Secondary School, Deeli near Trikuta Nagar in connection with the celebrations of Children’s Day and 59th Cooperative Week, the Minister stressed the need for improving the standards of education both in private as well as government schools. He said the students should be nurtured in such a way that they can compete in different job oriented fields. Besides their academic activities, the students should be imparted moral education which was essential to make them good citizens, he asserted.

Expressing satisfaction on the performance of the chain of Cooperative Schools in Jammu, the Minister said that management has taken encouraging steps to upgrade the education standards during the past couple of years. The results are quite satisfactory, but efforts should continue to further improve the educational scenario. He called upon the management to enroll poor students to provide them free education. He said the mandate of cooperatives was not to earn profit but to uplift the poor sections of the society. He said the Government will provide all necessary financial support to the school to upgrade the infrastructure according to the requirement.

Throwing light on the celebrations of cooperative week and children’s day, the Minister said that both these occasions were dedicated to first Prime Minister of India, Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru. The cooperative movement was launched in India around hundred years ago to benefit the poor sections of the society, especially the farmers through cooperative mode. The event is celebrated globally in recognition of great success in this vital sector where millions of people are associated with the movement and availing benefits of the joint ventures. He appealed the people to join this movement to make the cooperative sector stronger in Jammu and Kashmir.

The children presented a colorful bonanza of cultural items which was highly appreciated by the jam packed audience. The Minister distributed prizes and mementoes amongst the students and teachers who excelled in academic and co-curricular activities.
