Any comment from Pak on peace to be taken seriously: Sitharaman
Kashmir Times. Dated: 5/22/2018 3:02:35 PM
NEW DELHI, May 21 (Agencies): Union Minister for Defence Nirmala Sitharaman has said that any comment from Islamabad calling for peace between the two countries would be taken seriously by India, a media report said.
The comments from Sitharaman came in the backdrop of the Pakistan Army chief favouring talks to resolve lingering disputes.
“Any comment on wanting peace will definitely be taken seriously,” Sitharaman said.
She made the remarks on the sidelines of an event when asked about the Pakistan army’s recent indication of supporting peaceful resolution of disputes between the two countries through talks.
Sitharaman said the armed forces would “fully honour” the government’s decision not to launch any operations in Jammu and Kashmir during the holy month of Ramzan.
Last month Pakistan army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa had said that “a peaceful resolution of disputes, including Kashmir, would be possible through talks between the two countries.”
