Youth clash with forces near Jamia Masjid, Anantnag

SRINAGAR, May 18: Clashes erupted between security forces and youth in outside Jamia Masjid here and Anantnag township of south Kashmir today.
The clashes, witnesses said, broke out after the groups of youth, staged protests after the culmination of Friday prayers.
The protestors pelted stones and security forces burst smoke shells and resorted to lathi charge.
Reports from Anantnag said the youth soon after the conclusion of Friday prayers hit the streets in Reshibazar area and held protests against the killing of 60 Palestinians by Israeli forces. They also stone pelted the forces who responded with tearsmoke shells. The clashes triggered a partial shutdown in old town and Lal-chowk areas for some time.
In KP road area of the town, witnesses said, security forces resorted to aerial firing to disperse the students who held protests and resorted to stone pelting later in the evening. Local sources said that groups of students after coming out of various coaching centers pelted the forces with stones triggering clashes. The forces, in order to drive them away, they said, fired several warning shots in air after which the protesting students dispersed.
The call for protests against the massacre of Palestinians was given by the joint resistance leadership.
