SRINAGAR, May 15: The joint resistance leadership (JRL) comprising of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik today called Lal Chowk march on May 19 against the proposed visit prime minister Narendra Modi.
According to a statement, in a meeting the leaders strongly condemned the atrocities committed against people throughout Kashmir. The JRL said and added that proposed visit of Indian premier is aimed at to hoodwink the opinion of the international community.
Blaming Indian forces for turning the entire state into a battle field, the leadership said that innocent people are detained on frivolous charges and are detained in different jails where as youth are being pushed to the wall. “Such undemocratic and inhuman situation can’t be tolerated for long. The resistance leadership is denied the political space and genuine voices strangulated and added that those detained are subjected to torture and inhuman behaviour,” statement said.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) said that though Indian state and government in Jammu Kashmir have put almost all the leadership either in jails or under house arrest, but despite these oppressive tactics and use of police and military might, JRL will stage a peaceful protest on May 19. JRL said forcing silence of a graveyard by using military might and designating it as peace can only be termed as foolishness. If the government really believes in democracy and freedom of speech, they should stop their oppressive tactics and allow JRL to hold this peaceful protest.
