Train services restored in Kashmir after 4 days

Continued internet suspension irks subscribers of Shopian, other parts of South Kashmir

SRINAGAR, May 14: Train services were restored in Kashmir valley on Monday after remaining suspended for past four days.
The railway officials at Budgam railway station revealed that all the trains running from and to Budgam were run on scheduled time since early morning on Monday.
They said all the trains scheduled to and from Baramulla were also run on time after four consecutive days of suspension.
The officials said the trains scheduled from and towards Qazigund were run as per scheduled time since Monday morning.
The officials revealed that the train service was suspended owing to repairment of the railway track.
Similarly, trains will also chug on Srinagar-Budgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir, he added.
Pertinently, the train services have remained suspended in Kashmir valley several times during past one month following the incidents of violence and killings.
The commuters travelling by train to different parts of valley alleged that they were pushed to immense inconvenience due to train suspension.
Meanwhile the continued suspension of mobile internet services in Shopian areas has irked the subscribers especially the students.
While high speed mobile internet was restored in several parts of south Kashmir on Sunday after two weeks suspension, the mobile internet continues to remain suspended in Shopian district of South Kashmir following an encounter between militants and government forces on May 6 in which 7 civilians and 5 local militants were killed.
Pertinently, 3G and 4G internet services were suspended across Kashmir valley since May 6.
However, the continued clampdown on internet services across South Kashmir parts has pushed the student and business community to inconvenience.
Earlier this week the residents of South Kashmir, which included people from business community and students, had appealed the authorities to restore internet service as the continued internet gag was irking the subscribers.
"For the past three weeks internet services have remained continuously suspended. It has become a huge cause for concern as we are not able to access important stuff related to our studies. We are not able to access important information related to academics. Unabated internet ban has taken a toll on our studies," a group of students from Pinjura area of Shopian revealed.
Likewise, people from business community alleged that suspension of mobile internet service by the government every second day has resulted in a huge setback to their business.
"The mobile internet ban has adversely affected our work. We are not able to place online orders. We are not able to contact our clients online which has badly affected our business," said Arshad, from Pulwama district of South Kashmir.
