MUMBAI, Mar 23: United Arab Emirates' pacer Mohammad Naveed was hardly one year old when Pakistan's Javed Miandad hit the last ball six against Chetan Sharma (Austral-Asia Cup, Sharjah, 1986) and has only heard about it, but last Sunday he did see (on TV) Dinesh Kartik's winning six-run shot against Bangladeshi Soumya Sarkar (Nidahas Trophy, R. Premadasa Stadium).
The similar situation had arrived when Zimbabwe needed six runs off Naveed's last ball but Craig Ervine could only score two.
"I was very confident about my bowing and didn't think that Ervine would hit a six", the 27-year-old right-arm medium pacer, speaking exclusively over telephone from Harare, said.
"After the match, we shook hands with all Zimbabwe players as it is customary. And believe me, Ervine was literally crying", Naveed added.
Interestingly, Naveed dedicated his Man of the Match (MoM) award to his brother.
"His name is Nadeem Saleem. My brother is my pillar strength. He is not a professional cricketer but plays club cricket. He has been supporting me all the time and before every match boosts my morale and encourages me a lot", Naveed added.
Later, speaking to this Reporter from UAE, the elder brother Nadeem Saleem said, "I have always stood behind my brother in his good and bad days. He is a very hard worker and I always support him. I want him to play more international matches".
"Naveed is a very good person and always committed to the game", Mazhar Khan, the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) official, speaking exclusively, said.
Sunil Asrani, Naveed's sponsor (I Sports) in UAE, was also elated with Naveed's perforance in the match. The UAE team is scheduled to leave Harare tonight and returning UAE on Saturday early morning.
