Medico Narco smuggler acquitted
JAMMU, Jun 30(JNF): Principal Sessions Judge Kathua M K Hanjura acquitted one Sewa Ram alias Surti Kumar, who had been facing trial in NDPS case for the last six years as prosecution failed to establish case against him.

According to the police case, on November 2, 2007 a police patrol party of Police Station, Lakhanpur, headed by Head Constable Pritam Singh spotted a person at Nai Basti, Lakhanpur. He was holding a black polythene bag in his hand. On seeing the police patrol party, he started running. He was intercepted and apprehended. On searching the polythene bag, it was found to contain 2000 capsules of parvon spas. These were seized on the spot. He divulged his identity as Sewa Ram son of Parkash Chand resident of Gugran, tehsil Pathankot, District Gurdaspur. On a written docket of Pritam Singh, Head Constable, a case for offences u/s 8/21 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station, Lakhanpur, against the accused. After completion of investigation challan was presented.

Principal Sessions Judge Kathua M K Hanjura after hearing Public Prosecutor Ravi Kumar Gupta for the state advocate Ganga Ram Sharma appearing for the accused observed that the cumulative effect of all that had been said and done above was that the prosecution had not presented its case in a manner beyond any shadow of doubt. The link evidence in the case was missing.

“The prosecution has failed to connect the accused with the crime he has been charged with, viewed in the total context the accused straightaway merits acquittal. Accordingly, the accused, is acquitted of the charges levelled against him and stands released from the bail bonds,” the Principal Sessions Judge held.
