GMC Jammu registrar sacked for `anti-govt’ FB post

JAMMU, Mar 18: The Jammu and Kashmir government has terminated the services of the Registrar of the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for an "anti-government" post on Facebook.
Amit Kumar was sacked after he violated rules that prevent a government servant from using social media to write anti-government posts. Kumar had been appointed for three years on contract to serve at the GMC Jammu.
He is the first doctor to face axe under the SRO 525 that bars an employee from writing against the government.
In an order, the GMC Jammu said the doctor has “used Facebook and commented with the intent of provoking readers.”
Principal GMC Jammu, Dr Sunanda Raina confirmed the termination of the doctor. “We have initiated action as per the rules. The doctor has been asked to explain his position,” she said.
