|SRINAGAR, Nov 11: The Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, today threatened to move court against frequent detention under PSA of Mir Hafizullah even as the conglomerate aims to send evidence against Senior Superintendent of Police, Anantnag, R K Jala, to “concerned quarters”. |
“R K Jala has been arresting Mir due to personal vendetta…The legal cell of Hurriyat (G) may challenge in court the frequent arrests of Mir. We will collect the evidence against the police officer and present it before the ‘concerned quarters’ and public,” Geelani said in a press statement issued here.
The threat followed Mir’s arrest and detention under PSA within just 29 days of his release from the Jail. Mir was last time arrested for organizing Seerat Conference, and this time, according to Hurriyat (G), he was arrested on the pretext of intending to organize an Eid Milan.
“The police officer abused Mir and told him clearly that he will not allow him to carry out any political activities. The police officer has told Mir that he will silence him with the barrel of the gun,” Geelani said.
“We could understand if Mir was arrested for organising rallies, but he is being arrested for being part of the religious activities,” he said.
The separatist leader condemned the action against members of Hurriyat (G) and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, and demanded abolition of the PSA.
“Kashmir is a dispute and it is accepted by the whole world. Even mainstream parties in the state make use of the Kashmir card for gaining votes. Why is then Hurriyat (G) and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat targeted for demanding resolution of this issue,” he said.
“PSA shall be abolished,” he continued, “We appeal the Amnesty International and other human rights bodies to take notice of the condition of Hurriyat leaders and the public here.”
