Met predicts light rain, snow over J&K

Avalanche warning issued

SRINAGAR, Mar 13: While the weather continued to remain pleasant in Kashmir valley on Tuesday, the officials at Met department revealed that there were likely chances of light rain and snow along higher reaches of the state during next 24 hours.
The spokesperson at met department said that there existed a minimum danger avalanche warning across various areas of the state especially upper reaches during next 24 hours.
"A low danger avalanche warning has been issued for issued for the areas of Kupwara, Ganderbal, Budgam, Kulgam, Anantnag and in Kargil and Leh areas of Ladakh division. There is weather advisory for Rajouri, Ramban and Doda and several areas falling along Srinagar-Jammu national highway during next 24 hours," spokesperson at Met department said.
The officials revealed that avalanche warning existed for areas of Tangdar, Gurez, Gulmarg and Baramulla also.
The officials said there were chances of low to medium danger avalanche hitting all these areas in next 24 hours.
The officials at met department revealed that light to moderate rainfall was likely to occur in several plain areas of the state during next 24 hours.
"Weather is likely to remain dry however light rain/snow may occur at isolated places across the state during next 24 hours," official at met office said.
Meanwhile, one-way the vehicular traffic was restored on Srinagar Jammu national highway on Tuesday after the traffic remained suspended on Monday owing to landslides at various areas along highway.
The officials at traffic control room said owing to landslides at Ramban and Magarkote areas the highway was blocked forcing the authorities to shut the highway for traffic.
The officials said around 800 vehicles were left stranded along highway on Monday. The stranded vehicles included trucks carrying supplies and passenger vehicles also.
The officials said all stranded vehicles were being cleared while the men and machinery from border Roads Organization were clearing the highway of debris of landslides.
"The BRO is on with road clearance and one way traffic was restored today. We hope that road shall be cleared of all the debris by tomorrow," an official at Traffic Control Room revealed.
