Govt committed to protect the rights of labour class: Sadhotra

SRINAGAR, June 28: Minister for Labour, Employment and Planning, Ajay Sadhotra Friday reiterated Government’s resolve to protect the rights of labour class and also to extend all possible facilities for their welfare and growth.
The Minister was addressing Jammu and Kashmir Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board meeting here today.
Sadhotra asked the officers to ensure documentation of the achievements of the Board and highlight the labour related best practices through power point presentation. He said that the labour class is the backbone of the society who put in their energy in building the infrastructure like hospitals, schools, government buildings as well as private residential colonies, He said that it is the duty of every individual to be affectionate and sympathetic towards this community. The meeting discussed various issues related to JKBOCWWB and the registered construction workers. The issues include creation of staff for the Board, delegation of powers for sanctioning of the cases, computerization of the details of construction worker across the State and binding of the record.
Threadbare discussions were held for according approval to the issues related to Board. The Secretary of the Board Syed Murried Hussain informed the meeting that till date 184294 workers have been registered while as Rs. 37.64 crore were spent on the welfare schemes of the Labourers till ending March this year, covering 49749 beneficiaries. He said that Rs. 220 crore was collected as Cess amount up to ending May this year.
