NHW blocked by slides, reopened after 9 hours

RAMBAN, Feb 6: The 300-kilometre long Jammu- Srinagar national highway was reopened for vehicular traffic after remaining closed for nine hours due to a massive landslide in Ramban .
According to the police, there was a heavy landslide which blocked the highway this morning at Ramsoo stranding over 400 vehicles. Men and machines of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) cleared debris on the highway. "Traffic on the highway was restored after nine hours. The debris due to the landslide has been removed from the highway," a senior traffic police officer said.
More than one thousand load carriers and passanger vehicles got stranded at different locations in between Magerkote to Chanderkoot on Jammu Srinagar national highway.
Reports of traffic control unit Ramban said that on Tuesday morning at about 8:20 am a massive landslide break out from a hilllock at a work site of Hindustan Construction Company near Magerkote on Jammu Srinagar national highway. Due to occurance of landslide on Jammu Srinagar national highway, traffic movement was blocked completely. After break out of landslide, Hindustan Construction Company pressed its men and machinery into the job. The debris of landslide which contains big boulder takes much more time for its clearance. After ten hours of hectic work at about 18: 30 pm traffic movement was restored on Jammu Srinagar national highway.
