Tandon under attack for calling Kashmir integral
KT NEWS SERVICE
SRINAGAR, Nov 8: Visiting Member Parliament to United Nations, Annu Tandon, today came under scathing attack from separatists for having called “Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of India” and elections as an alternative to plebiscite.

The Hurriyat Conference (G) rejected the statement as “ridiculous”, and reiterated that “Jammu and Kashmir has never been a part of India”.

“India has occupied the state with its military might… In presence of more than seven lakh armed forces personal and with full might they have conducted the so-called assembly elections, which have no legitimacy and are fraud and manipulated,” the spokesman of the conglomerate responded in a press statement issued here.

The spokesman added that “Pakistan is an important party to the Kashmir dispute” and no institution could ignore its role. “They (Pakistan) have no constitutional or moral right over Jammu and Kashmir statement,” he said.

Strongly rejecting the "unwarranted reference" by Pakistan, Annu Tandon, during the UN General Assembly debate on 'Right of people to self-determination', asserted that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India.

"Pakistan's reference to Jammu and Kashmir is a blatant attempt to divert attention from its dismal record of gross and systematic violation of human rights, including in PoK. Pakistan would do well to introspect before casting baseless allegations against India," Tandon had said.

Tandon had added that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have chosen and reaffirmed their destiny repeatedly through India's well established democratic processes and "free, fair and open" elections have been regularly held in the Indian state.

Challenging her statement, the JKLF said “the Jammu Kashmir is a World recognized disputed territory” and “Kashmiris have been struggling for its resolution for last six decades.”

“UN forum where Indian leader Anu Tandon is claiming that election in Kashmir are substitute to the self determination has in 1952 rejected India’s claim and passed a resolution that these elections were in no way an substitute to the right of self determination,” the vice-chairman of the party, advocate Bashir Ahmad Bhat, said in a statement.

Stating that her statement is “beyond reality” and “based on Mischief”, Bhat said that the MP needs to revisit history again as he seems to lack knowledge on the subject.

“The statements like that of Tandon are unacceptable and will yield nothing but disaster,” he said, and condemned the Pakistan government too for mentioning Jammu and Kashmir as an Indian state.

“Only saying sorry and terming this kind of criminal negligence as human error cannot eradicate the deft of this crime and if the rulers of Pakistan support Kashmiri freedom struggle as they are claiming, they should take an immediate action against the people involved in these kind of mischief,” he said to Pakistan.
