Ahead of seminar, separatists detained
MAJID NABI
SRINAGAR, Jan 3: Most of the separatist leaders were either arrested or placed under house detention on Wednesday ahead of scheduled seminar organised by Tehreek-e-Hurriyat at its head office at Hyderpora tomorrow.

While the octogenarian separatist leader and Hurriyat (G) Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani continued to be detained at his Hyderpora residence, police arrested Jammu and Kashmir Liberation (JKLF) Chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik this afternoon from Abiguzar and shifted him to Srinagar Central Jail on judicial remand.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who heads his faction of Hurriyat Conference (M) was placed under house detention at his Nigeen residence.

“After three days, again put under HouseArrest! Panic and fright of the paranoid Autocratic State getting more and more chronic by the day,” Mirwaiz tweets after being placed under house arrest.

Pertinent to mention here that a seminar on the resolutions passed by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) was organized by Hurriyat (G) at its headquarters at Hyderpora in which all the top and low rung separatist leaders were scheduled to participate on Thursday.

However, the authorities a day before foiled the same by either arresting or placing separatist leaders under house arrest.

Sources said police also arrested and lodged several separatist leaders at various police stations to prevent them from participating in seminar that including Imtiyaz Hyder, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, Mohammad Yasin Atai, Gulam Ahmad Gulzar and Molvi Bashir Ahmad.
