39th State Badminton Championship: Diksha claims women’s singles title

JAMMU, Nov 6: Diksha Verma today emerged as new women’s champion after she defeated Akanksha Raina in the women’s singles final in the ongoing 39th State Badminton Championship, organised by J&K Badminton Association at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here.

It was a straight sets (21-16, 21-13) win for Diksha. Earlier, in the semifinals, played in the morning session, Diksha outplayed Keeratpreet in straight sets 21-14, 21-17 while Akanksha downed Prabhjot in similar fashion 21-14, 21-16.

Meanwhile, the girls’ under-13 year title went to Naman, who beat Peehushi 21-12, 21-14. Under-13 girls’ doubles title was clinched by the pair of Naman and Peehushi, who beat Amishika and Jasleen 21-11, 21-13.

In under-13 boys doubles final, Savinay and Aryan outplayed the duo of Puranjay and Utsav 14-21, 21-14, 21-18 in relatively closely contested game.

The details: Semifinals: Under-17 girls’ singles: Sahar Massarat bt Saneha 21-07, 21-15 and Rupal bt Subhagini 21-16, 15-21, 24-22. Under-17 boys singles: Divam Gupta bt Ayush Parwana 21-10 and Zaafal bt Nalin 21-16, 21-17. Under-15 boys singles: Divum Gupta bt Akhil Khajuria 21-07, 21-11 and Adan (Srinagar) bt Nalin 21-15, 14-21, 23-21.
