Police foils JKTF march

SRINAGAR, July 16: Hundreds of teachers mostly Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) who had assembled from across the valley near Kashmir Haat today took out a protest demonstration seeking fulfillment of their demands.
They protesting teacher led by Abdul Qayoom Wani, president Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) and Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF) were demanding increase in their monthly honorarium from Rs 1500 to 3000 and also the inclusion of their five year experience as ReT into their service records.
Police, however foiled the march and prevented agitating teachers to come near civil secretariat after using the water cannon and baton charge. Police used coloured water from water canon to disperse protesting teachers. Later dozens of protesting teachers were kept under preventive detention.
“The state government is forcing the employees to come out on roads,” said the Chairman of the Teachers Forum Abdul Qayoom Wani said.
In a statement issued here, a spokesman of the JKTF has said that police detained dozens of protesting teachers including their leader Abdul Qayoom Wani in Shaheed Gunj police station.
Quoting Wani, the spokesman has said that if the government fails to address the long pending demands of ReTs, education volunteers and migrant teachers, JKTF will be compelled to stage a massive protest demonstration for which the government shall be responsible.
“We appeal the government that without any further delay, it should include five years of services rendered by ReTs in their service records, enhance their honorarium, regularize Education Volunteers after seven years and include 15 years of services of migrant teachers in their service records,” Wani has demanded.
