`Number increases from 61,000 to over 1 lakh in 3 yrs’

JAMMU, Dec 14: Congress has questioned the enhanced number of daily wagers, causal and need based workers in various departments, as their number has risen from 61,011 to in year 2014 to over one lakh at present.
Reacting to the announcement of the government to regularize sixty thousands (60,000) casual workers, JKPCC questioned as to how their number increased around 40,000 in the last around three years during the present regime. Chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said that total number as per official information up to September 30, 2014 was 61,011 in all departments but the present number being shown was more than one lakh (1,00,501), which meant even after regularizing sixty thousands, (60,000) still over forty thousands (40,000) would fight for their rights on streets to seek fulfillment of promises made by PDP-BJP to regularize all those in these categories in different departments.
Sharma said it was welcome that government intended to regularize sixty thousands of them but sought a detailed answer from the government especially over the number of illegal backdoor entries and appointments made during three years. He suspected that blue eyed persons were shown undue favours during the present regime at the cost of genuine workers, who were performing their duties for several years on meager wages and most of whom had not been paid wages for over 32 months. He said that all these categories of people were waiting to hear about their regularization but the contradictions in the present and past figures indicated that justice would not be done to all the agitating workers.
“The government must come out clear on the issue to clear the air,” he demanded.
