Protestors block Pahalgam road for hours

SRINAGAR, July 15: The alleged severe beating of a civilian allegedly by a  CRPF man at
Nunwan base camp triggered massive protests by the people. Following the incident police arrested the erring CRPF man.
Reports and eyewitnesses said  Mohammad Ayoub Shah who is running a stall inside the base camp for Yatris at Nunwan was beaten by a CRPF man after the two had a heated argument.
“The CRPF man on gate did not allow Shah to enter the base camp and asked him to show the permission documents first. However, even on showing permission documents, the CRPF man refused to let him in. His refusal led to heated arguments between the two after which the CRPF man beat him up severely. He even kicked him in his private part,” said the eye witnesses.
Ayoub  was immediately taken to Pahalgam hospital . Doctors discharged him after the treatment.
The incident triggered massive protests by pony wallas, tent wallas and other people associated with Yatra.
The protestors, demanding punishment to the erring CRPF man, blocked the road for hours together causing inconvenience to the passengers.
Reports said that as the protestors continued to block the road the officials of the district administration including additional deputy commissioner reached the spot and pacified them.
When contacted ADC Anantnag, Nisar Hussain Wani, said that there was some minor issue which he sorted out on spot. “There was no question of severe beating but it was some small issue which was sorted out immediately,” the officer said.
