5 injured in Hajin clashes

SRINAGAR, Dec 6: Five persons were injured during clashes between protestors and police and security forces at Hajin in Bandipora district.
Reports said the clashes began when army men came under stone pelting by some youth. Army men allegedly ransacked the shops and houses, beat the people and also brunt heaps of dry grass. The people took to streets and held protest demonstrations. This also led to stone pelting.
Reports said soldiers from 13 Rashtriya Rifles were on a patrol when a couple of youth pelted stones on them. According to eyewitnesses, this infuriated soldiers.
The soldiers ransacked houses and shops, thrashed people and set fire to stacks of dried grass in Parrey Mohalla, Bon Mohalla and Khos Mohalla localities of Hajin.
The locals hit to roads and clashed with security forces who arrived in the town in large numbers.
According to locals, security forces fired tear-smoke shells and pellets. A youth was hit by a bullet in his leg and was referred to Bones and Joints hospital Srinagar.
"Four youth were hit by pellets. Another youth was hit by bullet in his ankle. The injured youth were shifted to Hajin hospital," the locals said.
A doctor posted in Hajin said that they received five injured youth, one of them identified as Nayeem Ahmad Mir was hit by a bullet in his left ankle.
When contacted by media, Srinagar based defense spokesperson, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said, “I am ascertaining the facts.”
Shops remained closed in Hajin as a mark of protest against the alleged excesses by security forces.
