JAMMU, Dec 4: Shubham Singh Pundir of Mayank Goswami Cricket Academy became the 3rd highest run scorer in the entire country for the season 2017-18.
Shubham the talented south paw amassed a colossal 585 runs from 7 innings at an incredible average of 83.57 runs per innings and an impressive strike rate off 66.67 in the on going under 23 CK Naydu Trophy.
Shubham who was also captain of the state by the nature of his exploits became a top contender for the Indian Under 23 squad for the Asia cup this season.
If picked Shubham will become the first player in the states history to do so in that age category.
Shubham who was only 19 yrs old at the start of the season stated about his performances, “God has been kind to me and so far my efforts are bearing fruit. My goal is to keep working hard and put in the best performances so I can make the state and everybody else proud”.
A number of ex players had a lot of good things to say about the prodigious south paw. They stated, “Shubham is a special talent and needs to be taken care of by JKCA. We need to make sure that Shubham gets all the opportunities he deserves to play for India this season and JKCA has a huge role to play in that.
It’s a matter of pride for the state and JKCA that one of our very own has risen to such heights. We just need to make sure his efforts go all the way this time. It has happened in the past that Shubham has scored tons of runs but his performances have been ignored during India selections. We all want to see him adorn the India colours this season which will put another feather in JKCA’s hat after they backed one of their top players Parvez Rasool to play for India.
