Search ops in Pulwama villages, clashes erupt in another village

SRINAGAR, Dec 2: Security forces today launched cordon and search operations in three villages of southern Pulwama district as clashes broke out in Trichal village of the area. The search operations, however, yielded nothing.

Official and local sources said that army and Special Operations Group (SOG) of police laid siege to the Naira and Tahab villages of volatile Pulwama district after receiving inputs about the presence of militants there. The forces, conducted house to house searches in the particular localities of twin villages but no contact was established with the militants. The operation was later called off.

However local sources said that clashes erupted in nearby Trichal village between forces and youth. As the vehicles, they said, carrying forces passed by the village, scores of youth who had assembled on the road pelted them with stones. The forces in retaliation lobbed tear-smoke shells to drive them away. However no injuries were reported during the clashes.

In Arigam village of Tral, cordon and search operation was launched in the afternoon following the input about the presence of militants. Local sources said that the army and SOG men cordoned off Arigam village and conducted house to house searches. However, the search operation was called off unsuccessfully and peacefully after a couple of hours.
