Tral shuts for second day over Hizb militants killing
Search ops in three southern villages
ANANTNAG, Nov 22: Tral continued to remain shut for the second running day Wednesday over the killing of a local militant by the government forces on Monday while a cordon and search operation was launched in Harmain village of Shopian and Loraw Jageer area of Tral which ended peacefully.

A Hizb militant Adil Ahmad Chopan was killed in Seer village of Tral in a brief gunfight with army and SOG men. The slain militant, the native of Loraw village earlier this year in May had survived a fierce night long gunfight in which a top commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat and his another associate were killed.

To mourn the killing of Chopan , local sources said, a complete shutdown was observed in Tral township and its peripheries with all the shops, other business establishments and educational institutions remaining shut and traffic off the roads.

Meanwhile, local sources said that people in huge numbers continued to throng the residence of slain militant for the third day to express solidarity with his family. Besides the common people representatives of various resistance and religious groups also visited the family and paid tributes to the slain during their speeches.

Meanwhile a cordon and search operation was launched in Harmain village of Shopian in the morning. Local sources said that the contingents and army and SOG men following the information about the presence of militants in the village laid a siege to the area and carried out searches. However, they said, the forces after failing to locate the militants called off the operation after a couple of hours.

In another search operation, forces cordoned off the Loraw Jageer area of Tral in the afternoon following the information about the presence of militants. The search operation, however, ended peacefully and unsuccessfully. Another cordon and search operation was launched in Bamnoo village of Pulwama district which also ended peacefully after a couple of hours. Local sources said that armys 44 RR and SOG keller cordoned off a particular area of the village and conducted searches. However after failing to establish contact with the militants the forces called off the operation.
