JAMMU, Nov 19: A successful business man, a proficient entrepreneur, a visionary official member of CCI, Gaurav Gupta also known as the marathon man of Jammu has made Jammu and the entire state very proud by becoming the first bare feet marathon runner from Jammu and Kashmir after successfully completing the 10th edition of Airtel Delhi Half Marathon bare feet today.
Airtel Delhi Half Marathon (ADHM) is an annual half marathon foot-race held in New Delhi, India. Established in 2005, it is both an elite runner and mass participation event. More than 35000 runners registered for the same out of which the bare feet runners were not more than 10 in number.
Gaurav who has always accepted challenges in his life, be it overcoming his health issues, running marathons or creating history by completing world's highest and toughest half marathon, has time and again proved that a will is what is required to complete any task in the entire world.
He has always shown courage to fight all odds and overcome the challenges he sets for himself every now and then. Running is bliss to this son of soil and each time he runs he wants to motivate others to follow something or the other to make their identity, their roots identity stand out aiming to make a positive difference and impact on the society. He also ran on Jammu and Srinagar roads standing in solidarity with the martyrs of the state in the past and also spreading the message of peace, health and prosperity for Jammu and Kashmir.
Inspired by Milind Soman, the iron man and the bare feet marathoner, he took up the challenge. Though he received a mix bag of responses on practicing running bare feet due to lack of awareness on the subject, he never let him get affected of the same. He completed the Airtel Delhi Half Marathon distance of 21.097 kms in 2.27 hours of the 3.30 hours allotted for the same without any injuries.
"I am glad I have survived all the hiccups and maintained mental balance intact. I feel ecstatic completing this bare foot. I am very happy and feel proud that with this, I will always be a starting part of bringing this culture to my state, Jammu and Kashmir," he told.
