JKJCCI to take up cross-LoC trade issues with India, Pak

SRINAGAR, July 13 : The cross LoC traders have decided to take up the matter regarding promotion of the business with governments of India and Pakistan.

The decision was taken at a meeting of The Jammu and Kashmir Joint Chamber of Commerce (JKJCCI) representing traders on both sides of LoC. Among others the meetings was also attended by the President of Kashmir Chambers of Industries and Commerce Mubeen Shah and his counterpart on the other side of the LoC, Muhammad Akram.

Prioritising its demands, the chamber has decided to take up the issues of banking, communication and increase in trading days with the government of India and Pakistan. “We will stress replacement of the positive list of tradable items with a negative list apart from issuance of multiple entry passes to traders on both sides of the LoC,” said Mubeen Shah Chairman

He called for giving priority to trading horticultural and agricultural produce on both sides of the LoC for providing it better market access.

The JKJCCI has also decided to send a delegation of members to Pakistan to press for early fulfillment of the demands.

The joint chamber also underlined the social and economic importance of the cross LoC trade. “It is not just a confidence building measure (CBM) but can also help the two countries earn huge revenues,” said Mubeen.

The meeting was also attended by Abdul Hamid Punjabi, Abdul Rouf Punjabi, Asif Lone, Bashir Ahmad Kongposh, Deepak Agarwal, Mubarak Mehmood Awan, Hilal Ahmad Turki, Muhammad Akram, Raja Muhammad Jamil and others

The 13 point resolution earlier passed in the conference held on July 10 and 11 at SKICC here had demanded implementation of banking facilities and Standard Operating Procedures in the cross LoC trade. The resolution also called for replacing the positive list of tradable items with a negative list apart from multiple entry visas for traders and increase in trading days from four to seven days in a week.
