Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Fayaz Ahmad Lone said that two persons accused to be involved in braid cutting of minor girl were arrested during identification parade at District Magistrate’s office.

He identified the accused as Adil Ahmad Shah and Mohammad Aslam Shah both residents of Bamrooda Khaag in central Budgam

The district police chief said that the incident took place on October 12 after the duo managed to enter into the victim’s house with intention of burglary.

“The victim is minor. The accused had reached Ganderbal to collect donations for an orphanage namely Al-Manan Yateem Trust at Hyderpora on the fateful day. They confessed to the crime during custodial interrogation,” SSP added.

Lone said the duo, after hatching a plan of burglary, entered into the victim’s house at Wakoora and chopped off her braid. However, they were caught by the locals after the victim raised hue and cry.

“The accused as per their statement targeted the girl only to engage other family members so that they could execute their plan slickly, though their plan failed the moment the victim raised hue and cry and the people caught hold of them,” said the SSP.

Lone said that a formal case FIR number 214 of 2107 under section 354,324 was registered in this regard and investigation was set into motion.

“The accused after being caught by locals pleaded not to be guilty. Since the case was already registered, both of them were arrested during an identification parade held yesterday. We will investigate the matter thoroughly and hopefully justice will be done to the victim,” SSP Ganderbal said.
