Swachh Bharat

Dear Editor,
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was launched by PM Modi on 2 October, 2014 with an aim to clean the streets, roads and to better the infrastructure of Indian towns and cities. With ‘Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat’ as its motto, it includes eliminating open defecation which is very common sight to see in most rural as well as in some urban areas.
Although, this campaign received a lot of praise and media coverage nationally and was successful in most cities, it fails to deliver results in Jammu city. Open overflowing dustbins, piles of garbage on the roadsides, open defecation can be seen in many parts of the city. This gives rise to many diseases also. It is pertinent to mention here that state government has to take effective steps so that the beauty of Jammu city can be revived by giving this campaign an extra push with the help of JMC and other concerned departments.
