MUMBAI, Nov 10: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) president Thilanga Sumathipala will deliver a speech on Jagmohan Dalmiya on November 14 in Kolkata, it is learnt here.
According to the highly placed sources in Colombo, he has been invited by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), which is hosting the first Test match (November 16-20) between the two countries.
"Jagmohan Dalmiya and Sumathipala were good friends and Dalmiya was a pillar of strength to the Eden Gardens and it is not surprising Sumathipala to speak on Dalmiya", a top SLC official told to this paper from Colombo.
Dalmiya not only headed the CAB and the BCCI but also the ACC and the ICC.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is the president of the CAB. Interestingly, late Dalmiya's son Avishek, is the secretary of the CAB.
"Both teams in Kolkatta will attend the speech. The CAB has also arranged a dinner on the same evening", the source further added.
Incidentally, both teams are staying in the separate hotels. Kohli's men will be in Taj Bengal (from 12th November on wards), whereas, Sri Lankans are put in an another five star hotel, it is also learnt here.
Sri Lankans have arrived more than a week before the first Test. The first tour match (BCCI presidents XI) begins on Saturday at the Jadavpur University Campus 2nd Ground, Kolkata.
"There have been no daily flights from Colombo, they operate thrice a week and therefore the team is sent early to India", the source informs.
"There is no question on who would bear Sri Lankan team's extra expenses for their early arrival. Both boards share healthy relation, and it is not a major issue", the gentleman signed off.
