‘After we refused to surrender, our families victimised’

SRINAGAR, Nov 9: Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) today said authorities are using NIA to create fear psychosis among youth.
Speaking on a seminar on Dr Allama Iqbal at his residence here, Geelani said the youth are being arrested on fabricated charges and asked youth to face these intimidations with bravery, persistence and commitment.
He alleged that the atrocities are being committed on innocent people by Government of India. “Since 1947, desperate attempts were made by Delhi to crush the people so that they give up their movement. But this did not happen,” Geelani said.
JKLF chairman Mohamad Yasin Malik while paying tribute to the great poet said that Dr Iqbal was a Muslim philosophical thinker of modern times and through his literary work he inspired a universal thought among Muslim Ummah.
“However it is very unfortunate that we are divided on sectarian lines, added Malik. Our religious authorities instead of spreading the message of oneness, unification, solidarity, promoted their respective school of thought and hence we are divided and sub-dived in smaller groups and lost our identity as Muslim,” he said.
Referring to the prevailing situation in state, Malik said authorities want to break “our resolve but we will never surrender or budge to the pressure tactics.”
“Every household and family presented laudable sacrifices and are facing immense hardships and miseries. Brutal authorities are showering pellets, bullets, killing and caging our youth,” JKLF chairman said.
He added that while the separatist leaders refused to surrender, their families and relatives were arrested.
