Operation against militants will continue: IG CRPF

SRINAGAR, Nov 9: Asserting that operations against militants will continue in the Valley, Inspector General (IG) of CRPF Ravideep Singh Shahi said that the militants are targeting political workers in south Kashmir out of frustration.
“Cordon and search operations are part of anti-militancy operations. They have been going on in the last and will be continued in the future. It is done for area domination and to create sense of security among common masses,” Shahi told reporters on the sidelines of a sports event organised by CRPF.
The IG CRPF said it also helps in restricting movement of militants.
Talking about the massive search operation going on in about a dozen villages in south Kashmir district of Shopian since early this morning, he said the magnitude of an operation depends on the intelligence information coming from the ground.
Shahi said militants targeting unarmed political leaders and working in south Kashmir reflects their frustration. “Forces have increased its presence in sensitive areas to create a sense of security among people,” he said.
When asked if the political workers will be provided security, he said threat assessment is being done continuously. “Security will be given to anyone who needs it,” he added.
