ANANTNAG, Oct 12: Unidentified gunmen today looted over Rs five lakh from a Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch in Marhama village near Sangam in southern Anantnag district.
Three men carrying guns, police and bank officials said, entered the bank in the afternoon and decamped with the cash.
"The gun men without wearing masks pointed their guns towards the bank officials and took along the cash lying on the cash counter," officials and local sources said.
Police had registered a case into the incident and initiated investigations.
Soon after the incident police and army men reached the spot and started searches to locate the gunmen who looted the bank.
A police officer in the area who is not authorised to speak to press blamed the militants for looting the bank.
"It is clear that militants are involved in bank robbery but we are investigating the militants who robbed the bank belonged to which outfit," police official said.
There have been several incidents of bank robbery since earlier this year.
The bank authorities after the bank robbery incidents had stopped cash transactions at several branches in Pulwama and Shopian districts.
