Grenade seized

BANIHAL, October 6: Security forces claimed to have recovered a hand grenade on the disclosure of one of the three militants allegedly involved in a terror attack on SSB personnel, during their interrogation in Joint Interrogation Center (JIC) Jammu.

Police reports said that on Friday after receiving information from reliable sources security forces cordoned off the village Ashar and started searches. During search, security forces recovered a Chinese made hand grenade from a nallah in village Ashar about 6 kilometers from Banihal market.

The recovery of hand grenade was made on the disclosure of three newly recruited militants of Banihal who had carried out a terror attack on SSB in which one Head Constable died and another ASI sustain serious bullet injuries and snatched two weapons from them.

Aftermath of terror attack police have arrested all the three militants involved in the attack on SSB along with two weapons which they snatched from SSB men, one pistol and a hand grenade on their information.

When contacted SDPO Banihal Deeraj Katoch, he told KTNS that the operation in which one Chinese hand grenade was recovered is purely done by J&K police. After receiving information from JIC that one of the three militants who carried out a terror attack on SSB disclosed on possession of grenade, a police party under his supervision along with SHO Banihal Aijez Wani, Inspector Shameem with a police party started searches in the village Ashar and recovered a Chinese made hand grenade on instance of a militant given in JIC during questioning. He disclosed in JIC that they have hide one hand grenade in a nallah near village Asher. “We have carried out an operation in the area and recovered the same on the militant disclosure at same place where two militant Arif and Gazanafar were arrested on September 22, 2017,” he added.

Army on the other hand claimed that during the interrogation of the three militants in JIC by Army, one of them revealed that they had also placed a grenade in general area Ashar, Banihal. Acting on the receipts of information, army quickly launched two teams and carried out a search of the area in which the grenade which was covered in green polythene was recovered by the army.
