Only LMVs allowed on NH

JAMMU, Sep 13: The 300-Kilometer Jammu-Srinagar national highway today reopened for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) after being blocked for two days following massive landslides.
A traffic official said, "Lighter vehicles have now been allowed to move from Nagrota towards Srinagar between 5.00 AM to 10.00 AM and from Levdora to Qazigund between 10.00 AM to 3.00 PM. Commuters have been directed to cross Jawahar Tunnel, which connects Jammu to Kashmir, by 3.00 PM."
The highway, the lone all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country, was closed for vehicular traffic on September 11 after a massive landslide at Morh Passi in Udhampur district damaged a bridge and blocked the road.
Officials have been directed to ensure that vehicles are not parked in any landslide or vulnerable zones under any circumstances.
Meanwhile, in order to assess the status of restoration work and steps taken to ensure immediate repairs of the road/damaged bridge, Jagjit Kumar, IGP Traffic J&K paid a visit to Morh Passi (Udhampur) and other areas of the NHW today.
During the visit, the officer interacted with the officials of concerned road maintenance agencies engaged in the restoration work, especially at Morh Passi. The concerned officials of the road maintenance agencies present at the work sites were emphasized for early completion of restoration work so that smooth flow of traffic on the NHW is ensured. They were also urged to make all out efforts in making the NHW worthy for two-way traffic.
The concerned officers/ officials assured that all the resources, at their disposal, shall be mobilized and requisite repair works shall be completed expeditiously.
SSP Udhampur and SSP Traffic, NHW and his staff accompanied the officer during the visit.
