Journalists be careful
Kashmir Times. Dated: 9/9/2017 1:57:17 PM
Dear Editor,
It is a shocking news that Gauri Lankesh, an independent journalist was shot dead outside her home in Bangalore. It 2011 a senior reporter of a daily was shot in Mumbai. Also, few years back Nashik additional district collector was burnt alive by the local oil mafia for discovering kerosene pilferage racket. Who can forget the death of whistleblower Satyen Dubey? It seems now journalists too needs some protection-security for their truth reporting. It is true that te pen is mightier than sword. In the present era of paid news and some journalists and media are easily bought, sometime authentication of news is under question. Though broadly media is trustworthy but this trend of paid news must be stopped once for all.
Writing Letters to the editor sometimes is dangerous if it relates to some complaint against specific person / official or the authorities. Is this the reason that some of the dailies and even magazines have stopped carrying Letters of its readers? To avoid the trouble, some regular letter writers prefer to write such daring and bold letters in their pen names, but the Editors know the real letter writer and thankfully they never disclose real identity of such letters appearing in the press. Though I am not a journalist in true sense, writing letters to the editors for last more than four decades my experience says be careful in writing letters to the editors!
