Ban Alcohol

Kashmir Times. Dated: 9/7/2017 11:52:58 PM

Dear Editor:
I am writing this letter for suggesting that alcohol should be banned completely in J&K Alcohol is a major risk factor and account for more number of deaths. It has worse social, economic and moral implications. It affect a person physically, destroy his ability to work and earn, ruin his family life and demoralize him utterly. The consequences of alcoholism-in terms of personal misery, family budget, family discord, loss of wages, failure of health, accidents and cost in damage claims, cost of hospital treatment, monetary damages in courts and other social problems emerge from the use of abuse of alcohol.
Gandhi Ji regarded the consumption of liquor as a major social evil and favoured complete prohibition ban in India. With this view, the constitution of India included Article 47 in the directive principles of state policy, which states, "The state shall endeavor to bring about prohibition of use, except for intoxicating drinks and drugs which are injurious to health "After independence, some states took up the programme of prohibition earnestly and some half heartedly.
Government should not only concentrate on benefits to economic health and not ignore the cost of illness. Our country is a welfare state and it is the responsibility of government to take certain steps which promotes welfare of it's citizen.
So for the safer India our state government shall impose a complete ban on alcohol in the state and follow the ideals which were cherished during our struggle for independence.
