SRINAGAR, June 22: A complete shutdown was observed in South Kashmir’s Anantnag town
against the worsening health conditions of Umat-e-Islamia chief and Mirwaiz South Kashmir Qazi Yasir who is under detention for last two weeks.
Qazi Yasir was shifted to district hospital Anantnag, yesterday after he complained of chest pain and weakness on one side of the body.
Doctors referred him to SMHS from district hospital Anantnag where his condition is stated to be critical. After the news of Yasir spread in the town scores of people including women took to roads and
staged protests. Dozens of clerics and the members of UeI also staged protests and courted arrest seeking release of their chief. All the shops, business establishments, private offices and private
educational institutions remained closed in the town today against his continuous detention. Attendance in government officers also remained thin due to the strike.
However, private and light passenger traffic, reports said, plied on roads normally while heavy passenger
traffic remained off. Reports said that the authorities had made heavy deployment of forces in the volatile areas of the town to maintain law and order. However, no reports of protests or stone throwing were received from any area of the township. Meanwhile sources said that the condition of Qazi Yasir is very much stable in hospital and doctors from DH Anantnag had referred him to Srinagar on his advice only.
