Shutdown, restrictions in Nagam-Chadoora

SRINAGAR, Aug 17: Complete shutdown coupled by stringent restrictions imposed by the authorities marked the charaum (fourth day) of top Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Yaseen Itoo, alias Mehmood Gaznavi at his native place Nagam Chadoora in central Budgam on Thursday.
Hizbul Mujahideen operational commander Muhammed Yasin Itoo aka Mehmood Gaznavi was among three militants killed in a “major” counter-insurgency operation in Shopian’s Awneera village on August 13.
All the shops, business establishments, educational institutions remained closed at Nagam Chadoora as people observed complete shutdown in Chadoora and its adjoining villages for fourth straight day to mourn the killing of Hizb militant.
All the shops, business establishments, educational institutions remained closed in the vicinity while skeletal movement of private vehicles could be seen on deserted roads.
Authorities had imposed stringent restrictions in parts of Budgam to avoid any uncertainty with all the roads leading to slain militants residence were sealed with spools of concertina wire and iron barricades.
However, hundreds of people including men women and children amid restrictions managed to reach Nagam the native village of Hizb commander to attend his chaharum and to express sympathies with the bereaved family.
Meanwhile hundreds of people staged anti government protest at Chadoora against the arrest of around sixty youth by police on charges of stone pelting.
The protesters said police without any cause or justification bundled sixty local youth who were returning to home after attending funeral of Gaznavi.
They said that most of them were students who were detained by the police on false and frivolous charges.
“We demand police to immediately release them without any delay before the situation turns rowdy in the village. We will be forced to hit streets and launch a protracted agitation against illegal detention of youth in case police failed to release them,” agitated protesters threatened.
