Layoffs in IT sector

Kashmir Times. Dated: 8/17/2017 1:10:15 AM

Dear editor,
Despite call talks bout the development by the successive governments, the unemployment scenario in our country appears to be black. A report by the International Labour Bureau (I.L.O) has projected that the number of unemployed people will rise in India in 2017 as also in 2018 estimating that the number of jobless will increase from 17.7 million in 2016 to 18 million in 2018. The Information Technology (I.T) sector is fresh one with large scope of job opportunities but it is a matter of serious concern that in this sector too due to the impact of the Trump administration in US on the Indian companies, the management which have earned huge profits in the recent years through soft ware exports and other it related activities have started firing its employees at the first available opportunity.
Although the prime minister is going all out for building a digital India be the main protangonists who will help in building that, are losing Jobs in every part of the country. The P.M is setting up large number of committees but no efforts are made to tackle the crisis in the Indian I.T industry which employs around 40 lakhs of young people in India and overseas. IT industry experts are saying that the present situation of job loss is unprecedented in the country in the recent year and even in 2008 economic crisis, the job situation in it industry was much better as so much lay offs did not take plan then as at least 25 per cent of people in it sector will be adversely affected.
While some highly trained ones may get jobs elsewhere again introduction of Robots and automation in an increasing manner in the Industrial Sector will make it difficult for many medium level trains people to get jobs as there is every possibility of further job cuts in the industry. There is more emphasis on digital business that leads to utilise less people for the designated works in nut shell the layoffs in IT sector is a blow to job oriented modernisation, growth and development in the country. It may ultimately result into more unemployment.
