Cross-LoC trade resumes

SRINAGAR, Aug 11: The Cross-Line of Control (LoC) trade between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PAK), resumed today after remaining suspended since July 21 after drugs were recovered from a truck at Trade Facilitation Centre Salamabad Uri on July 21.
Reports said traders in Jammu and Kashmir have been advised not to do any business with 34 companies of PAK which have been blacklisted to weed out any illegal activity on cross-LoC trade routes, following the recovery of drugs.
Today cross-LoC trade resumed, official sources said, adding trucks from here crossed over to the other side. Similarly, trucks from other side of the Line of Control also arrived here, sources said.
A total of 34 companies in Pakistan Administered Kashmir (PAK) have been banned from carrying out any trade activity on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, officials said.
Custodian of cross LoC trade Sagar D Doifode issued a circular to all traders in Jammu and Kashmir directing them not to enter into any export or import business with the 34 blacklisted companies, they said.
The ban has followed joint efforts by authorities of Jammu and Kashmir and PAK to weed out any illegal activity on cross LoC trade routes, the officials said.
The action comes more than two weeks after police recovered 66.5 kilogram of heroin and brown sugar from a truck coming from PAK at Salamabad trade facilitation centre on July 21.
