NHW reopens after 4-hour blockade
PRINCE JEHANGIR
BANIHAL, Aug 8: Vehicular traffic movement was restored on Jammu Srinagar national highway after four hours as a landslide occurred on highway suspended the traffic movement on Jammu Srinagar national highway near Sherbibi Banihal.

Reports said that at about 3.00 PM when an excavator was working at a portion of road near Sherbibi about 6 kilometers short from Banihal, suddenly a heavy landslide trigger off from a hillock which blocked Jammu-Srinagar national highway due to which hundreds of vehicles got stranded on highway.

Road clearance operation took more than four hours in clearance of landslide debris from the road and at about 7.00 PM road was opened for traffic. Road jamming on highway in portion of Sherbibi to Banihal followed after restoration of traffic which remained till last reports came in.

Commuters plying on Jammu-Srinagar national highway on regular basis alleged that contractors who are engaged in road widening works deliberately disrupt the traffic movement on highway when traffic flow is at its peak.

According to work procedure, traffic movement on highway remains undisturbed even when works are in progress, said a matador driver.
