Weapon snatching bid foiled

SRINAGAR, Aug 7: A weapon snatching bid was foiled by police after some unknown persons attempted to snatch a service rifle from a bank guard at Charar-e-Shareef area in central Budgam on Monday.
Sources and witnesses said that three persons whose identity could not be ascertained attempted to snatch a service rifle from a police cop guarding Jammu and Kashmir bank branch at Char-e-Shareef in Budgam this afternoon.
They said that the guard offered stiff resistance and did not let snatchers to succeed in their attempt. The assailants, however, managed to flee from the scene.
The CCTV footage of the incident circulated by police to help identify culprits has gone viral on all social networking sites including facebook and WhatsApp with netizens hailing the bravery of police cop.
A police spokesman in a statement while confirming the incident said three persons attempted to snatch a rifle from a J&K bank guard in Chrar-i-Sharief area of Budgam this afternoon. However, policeman deployed on guard foiled their attempt.
“The trio managed to escape from the spot but was caught on CCTV camera fitted in the bank. A case has been registered in this regard and investigation taken up,” he added.
Meanwhile,police has announced a reward for providing information about the persons involved in rifle snatching case.
“Anyone who will help the Police in identification of the perpetrators will be suitably rewarded and his identity will not be revealed. The person having information about the culprits can inform the SSP Budgam (Mobile No. 8491889376) or SDPO Charar-i-Sharief (Mob No. 9906000056) or SHO Charar-i-Sharief (Mobile No. 7051531761),” read a police statement.
