Shopian attackers identified: IGP
SRINAGAR, Aug 3: Kashmir police chief, Muneer Ahmad Khan on Thursday, said that the Lashkar militant Abu-Ismael who carried out the attack on a bus carrying Amarnath pilgrims in Anantnag last month is their next target.

“It has been confirmed that Abu-Ismael is involved in Amarnath episode in which a bus carrying yatris was attacked in Anantnag. He is already on target,” said IGP.

On Shopian attack today in which two army men including a Major were killed and another injured, IGP said that militants who carried out the attack on army have been identified and will be either arrested or neutralized in near future.

“Fortunately we have suceed to get some vital leads about militants. Their head Altaf Kachroo has been identified and his presence has also been established. They belong to HM militant outfit, they would either be arrested or neutralized in near future,” said he.

IGP Khan said that the concerned army unit in Zalura Shopian received inputs about the presence of militants in the area “as soon as army reached the spot, they were fired upon by militants hiding there indiscriminately, one army jawan was killed on the spot where as a Major sustained critical bullet injury who later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.”

“One army jawan also sustained injuries and is presently being treated at the army hospital. After this incident, the entire area was cordoned and searches started but militants taking advantage of darkness managed to flee from the scene,” he added.

On slain Lashkar militant, Abu Dujana, the IGP said, “Prima facie investigations about slain Lashkar Commander Abu-Dujana revealed that he was a Pakistani national hailing from Karachi,” IGP told reporters here.

He said that the state government had intimated Pakistan High Commission to own Dujana and take his body; however the response from the other side is yet to come. According to media reports, Dujana was buried somewhere in North Kashmir yesterday.

“As per procedure we are supposed to intimate and inform Pakistan to own their citizen and it is for them to decide as to whether they own him or not,” IGP added.
