PDA wakes up to illegal constructions at ‘Yanner’
CEO serves notices to owners of under construction huts
SHABIR AHMAD
SRINAGAR, June 19 :The authorities have woken up to the illegal constructions at ‘Yanner’ emerging as one of the favorite tourist destinations and have issued the notices to all the people constructing huts and guest houses at the spot.

The notices were issued to the hut owners days after the spot was brought under the ambit of Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA). Yanner is one of the picturesque spots on Lidder bank eight kms down to Pahalgam. Scores of huts and guest houses came up on the spot during last few years after the high court imposed ban on the constructions in Pahalgam. The area was recently brought under the ambit of PDA by the government.

Sources said that the PDA today served notices to all the people constructing huts at the spot to stop work on their structures. The PDA authorities also did the videography of the structures that have come up or coming up at the scenic spot. “In the notices the owners besides being asked to stop work on their under construction huts and guest houses have also been directed to submit the permissions and other required documents,” they said.

Confirming that the notices have been served to the people constructing huts in the area, chief executive officer (CEO), PDA, Nisar Hussain Wani said, “ Yes besides doing videography of all the structures in the area we have issued notices to all the people whose huts are under construction at the spot to stop work on their structures. We have further asked them to produce the permissions for erecting the structures there,”.

CEO said that since the area has been brought under the jurisdiction of PDA recently they will not allow any construction there now. “Whosoever does not give heed to our notice his structures will be demolished,” he said.

On the structures having already come up there illegally he said, “We are not authorized to touch the structures already erected there. It is the prerogative of the government to deal with them. But one thing I will ensure that no more construction will be allowed in the area,”.

On the allegations of the rich and influential hoteliers carrying out major repairs in their hotels in violation of the court ruling CEO said, “ We don’t grant permission to anybody for major repairs. Though we allow some minor repairs that too after the proper inspection. We keep strict vigil on the hoteliers if they are not carrying out the repairs secretly. Only few hours back after receiving the complaint i dismantled all the repair work carried out by a hotelier without seeking permission. I will also send a team of officials to seize the material from the hotel,”.
