Fratricide incidents on rise

Kashmir Times. Dated: 7/19/2017 10:52:24 AM

Dear Editor,
It is unfortunate that the incidents of fratricide are becoming frequent in the army and other para-military forces and that too over trivial matters.
In the recent incident, one Major was shot dead by a jawan in Uri sector in Jammu and Kashmir the other day after they entered into an altercation as the former (Major) had objected to the use of phone by the latter while on duty.
The past two decades have seen a steady rise in such incidents thus alarming the security set up and compelling them to devise ways and means to check the disturbing trend. Spiralling stress, frustration levels, exhausting patience, growing intolerance due to long stretched out conflict like situation particularly in J&K were figured out as major reasons behind rise in such incidents.
The forces have introduced Yoga and other related regimens to tackle this problem and they have worked also to a great extent but seemingly have failed to fully check the trend. The forces should also focus on intense regular counseling to address this issue.
